GOLD COAST BROADWATER · WAVE BREAK ISLAND

The Gold Coast Paddlesports Club.

No traffic. No noise. Just you, the water, and a horizon full of possibility.

WHAT IS SURF SKI PADDLING?

A long, narrow ski. A Broadwater full of flat water.

One of the Gold Coast’s best kept water sports secrets — surf ski paddling on the Broadwater.

A surf ski is a long, narrow craft you sit on top of — not in. It is faster than a kayak, more stable than it looks, and about the most addictive thing you can do on the Gold Coast before 7am.

We launch from The Paddle House at Main Beach — right on the Broadwater. Routes head south past Sea World and Marina Mirage, or north toward the Seaway. Longer paddles extend through the canal network for a 20km loop, or north to Wave Break Island and into the open ocean.

This club is for everyone — from your first flatwater session to downwind ocean runs. All levels, all ages, all welcome.

MEMBER STORY

From zero to four sessions a week.

Twelve months ago, a new member could not run 200 metres. Recovering from injury, overweight, and had basically given up on exercise.

First session: fell in twice in knee-deep water in the bay. Laughed it off. By the third session he was paddling with the group. Now paddles 4 times a week. Lost 12kg. Hit a personal best of 9.9km/hr over 10.8km.

You do not need to be. The paddle builds your fitness. Every person who paddles with us said exactly the same thing before their first session.
Almost certainly. In knee-deep water in the bay, warm water, everyone watching with a smile. Then you get back on.
Neither did any of us. By the end of your first Saturday coffee paddle you will be in the WhatsApp group.
First session is $50, ski included. After that, hire is $10 per session as a member.
No — and we would love more women paddling with us. Talk to Sue.
